Beechwood is probably fine, though I have not personally used it. I have used Aspen, another shredded wood substrate. If it is not dusty or aromatic with strong odors i.e. pine shavings it is probably alright. Your active and agressively feeding snakes could ingest some wood shaving by accident especially if you feed live prey, so I would advise to feed in a separate enclosure without the wood shavings or feed dead prey only. I mostly just use newsprint for my active diurnal snakes, and use the shredded wood for my sand boas and Rosy's. Those are nice photos of some handsome Cribos. It is always interesting to hear what our friends "across the pond" are up to.

whats the meaning of "across the pond"? I'm Italian....sorry!

VICtort Mar 24, 2005 01:04 AM

Dear Andrea, please forgive me for using slang. I meant across the Atlantic Ocean, a long way from my home on the shores of the Eastern Pacific. Many Yankees and Brits refer to the Atlantic Ocean as "the pond". Ciao, Vic
