Pleco in with Tarzan

southernpawsc Mar 22, 2005 04:43 PM

Ok, Tarzan is now 2 yrs old and we've had a Pleco, Allie, in there from the beginning. A little too late, I found out that even though the Pleco is bigger than him, eventually he will eat the pleco (or in the least, seriously injure it). Of course at the time, I figured we'd cross that bridge when we came to it. I'm assuming at 2 yrs old, it's about time to address the danger.

If we cut down on meats (which we should have probably done a while ago) and increase the greens, could this possibly cause him to prematurely attack the Pleco? (Dumb Q, eh)

Other than that,,,,,,,,,,,what in the hell can I do w/ this pleco now (besides ANOTHER tank). Can he go in a 1 gal tank w/ a Beta? I would think the Pleco is too big for a 1 gal tank. Is it dangerous to take a fish out of a TURTLE tank and put it in with other fish?

Ok, I'll give it a break now.

Thanks again,
Christi

Pleco's grow very large, they can reach lengths of up to almost 2 feet with time. It would be cruel to place him with a betta. If you need to relocate him i would suggest donating him to ewither a friend with a large fish tank or a good fish store in your area!

Nooo, I wasn't going to do that anyway. Esp. putting 2 fish in a 1 gallon tank. The pleco is already too big for that. I don't even know why I said it, other than pure curiosity if they could live together peacefully.

I do want to give it away, but am worried about the danger of putting it in a tank with other fish after it's been in with a turtle. Do you think that is ok? We've never given our turtle raw meat, so I don't know how much of a chance there is of salmonella, and don't know other parasites or sicknesses that could come from it.
