I'm stoked

draybar Mar 22, 2005 04:56 PM

First let me say....John, that is one nice bairdi a couple of posts below this one. With the head being yellow and not grey I would lean more towards Texas but there just might be a little Mexican in there. Either way it is a Beauty!.

Now, why I am stoked.
Both pairs of my Bairdis are hooked up as I type. I had six pairs of corns hook up over the last couple of weeks but my Bairdis just didn't want to join in all the fun.
I even put the males together to get that competitive edge going. Didn't work.
The last time I tried was last Thursday. I figured I would give them a little while and try again. Well, yesterday and today when I got home from work I noticed that all four were out. You could aslo see some pretty good paths around their tanks as if they had done quite a bit of cruising so I figured they must be about ready.
Well, I put each pair in sterilite sweater boxes and within two or three minutes they were hooked up.
WHOO WHOO.
I think of the six corn pairngs and these two pairings I am more excited about these. Just something about the Bairdis.

These are reruns..sorry... but I thought I would post pics of the pairs.
First two pics will be Rosie and Sam.. My first pair of bairdis.
Raised these guys from babies.
Rosie:

Sam:

the new pair I got last year.
Laura (was watching Tomb Raider when I named her..corny, I know...lol)

Elrond:

Jimmy,

Congrats on the hookup!

Also, after looking at your pics I definitely agree that I have a Texas, albeit one with a brighter yellow than most. The orange at the front of the head is the same on yours as mine.

I would love to find the person who "produced" mine. I bought him at a Petland in Brooklyn, NY in 2000. A different Petland in Brooklyn had a Bairdi at the the same time - someone must have sold a clutch to a few different stores. Bairdi are NEVER seen in stores here, this was very rare. Actually, now with the new law in NYC, it's illegal to sell them.
If anybody has any info, I'm just curious...

That's awesome! It's always great to raise snakes from babies and see them breed. Especially if they were one of your first snakes. Your Baird's are smoking and should put out some killer babies. If Rosie puts out some babies...I'd like a baby or two to pair up with my current Texas Baird's. I really need to get around to probing him/her. You just can't beat bairdi babies.

>>I will keep you posted as to their progress over the next month or so.
And you can bet I will post pics when they lay eggs and especially when the eggs hatch.
Paul, you've been marked down for a pair since you got your bairdis...lol
I just got a set of probes today (thanks Kathy L.)so I will have to learn how to probe my snakes. I have a couple of yearlings that will be easier to learn on. It is much better when you know what sex you have...lol

It's always easier to start sexing other peoples snakes first. The ones you wont probably see again.LOL.Im always great at sexing snakes if there not mine.By god I figure I have a 50/50 chance anyway.I was shown how to pop a snake last December but Ive never tried it. My female shed last night and the male is chasing her all over the 55 gallon this morning.I have my fingers crossed...Paul

Hopefully he will catch her !!!!!!!
Good luck.
I have never seen anyone pop a snake so I wouldn't want to attempt that. I have seen several snakes probbed and I beleive I will be able to handle it without too much trouble.
