Looking for a picture of pregnant corn

bmulcahy Mar 22, 2005 06:51 PM

I am lloking for a picture of a corn right before she lays her eggs. How obvious are the bumps? Last year I dropped the ball and didn't realize one of the snakes in my class was ready to lay the eggs and all were lost. I have two this year that I think will be laying eggs. I know to look around 28 days after mating and after a shed, but what will she look like?

Thanks!

Brian

If you go under the Care & Husbandry subforum, a little way down is my post entitled "Me being paranoid". Don's response labeled "swelling" has a really good picture of a gravid corn. Plus it's easy to get to

Brian,

Sometimes it's not very obvious, especially if the eggs are infertile (infertile eggs are smaller than fertile ones). One indication of a corn snake being gravid is the "tenting" of the spine, where you can see a distinct rooftop-like quality to the back, instead of it being rounded. Pictured is a gravid snow corn in her egg laying box.
