That can happen when an ig climbs up a screen siding and then gets the claw jammed when he goes to jump down. It has happened with mine twice, one time the bleeding was so intense that I eventually ended up using liquid skin to seal it up. In both cases the rhinos were fine afterwords, but the claw did not fully grow back.
thanks for the input. If the claw does not grow back will it make it hard for him to walk? It seems it might be bothering him now.
he will be fine. missing toes is not that uncommon among the wild ones and they are fine. If he is healthy otherwise it is purely cosmetic. My rhino is missing a toe and you wouldn't even notice. The famed Walter is missing a front leg and it doesn't stop him!
Hi, I have a caymanensis that has ripped out a total of 3 claws. for one thing, I have no clue how. I tried to identify the problem in the room to no avail. 1 happened the first summer he was here and the last two were last summer one right after another. I didnt think the first one would grow back but it did. Then the other two did too. Someone had asked me if the "root" was still intact. I could not see anything that looked like a root but all turned out fine. I dont know if this is the norm. Even if it doesnt come back he should be fine.
