What size hide box does everyone use for their Pits. I currently use these big heavy hide caves but have been thinking of getting a plastic combination hide/waterer. The rocks are huge and heavy, probably 18" x 13" or 14". They are hard to pick up and really hard to clean. Kind of a pain when you need to use one hand to move the hide and the other to get the snake, especially on the higher cages. Anyway, thanks for any advice.

I know what you are saying. It can be a pain to try to hold one big or bigger pit while cleaning the cage, and trying to hold cage items as well, or just cleaning the cage.

I use the plastic hide boxes that vary from plain looking to to the smaller ones I have found that look like a big pile of rocks. Also..I use the plastic inch and a half high plastic flower pot things turned upside down, with holes cut into the sides. Those make good hides, but are not heavy. Some snakes may care, some may not.

In some other cages..I use cereal or granola bar boxes. Some of those fit quite well with the size I need. If the animal defecates in or on it, I just throw it away and get another one.

Thanks, good idea on cereal boxes. Kids go through enough of them.

Is that one of Cherry's hypos???? Cool aren't thay? Good idea using the cereal boxes. In the big guy's cages I use Kitty Litter trays that I cut a hole in. They run just $1.99 at Wal-Mart. Wish I could get them half the size of the trays I get for the smaller guys! Good to see one of your pics again. Keep 'em comin'!!!

That is a hypo bull from a breeder in FL. Picked him up in 2003 in Daytona. Looks just like those killer ones from Cherry!

Hello,
If you wanted something that could double to hold the water bowl and be a hide box you can buy plastic tubs or cat litter tubs, etc and cut/sauder holes in the tops (bottoms of them originally) to the size of your water bowls if they have lips on them such as Van Ness crocks do and the stainless steel bowls do. This will help keep them from being tipped over and keep bedding out if you use chips. It can utilize more of the room in a cage/tub too if they are used this way. Good luck, and Billy has a good idea about using the cardboard boxes and just throwing them away after they are used. No kids here so i don't go through enough boxes, lol.

I use dog water bowls which have a space underneath. Works great for smaller snakes.
Here's a pic which shows my creamsicle corn crawling out from under the water bowl.

Small snakes I use toilet paper and paper towel rolls. Box lids (shoe box) etc cut to an appropriate size. Larger lids fo larger snakes. My baby pits have all been to big for TP, paper towel rolls.
