Blue Bellyed lizard ( if thats how you spell it)

i just moved to california (southern) my friends say that they see "blue bellyed lizards" everywhere out here in the summer. Does anybody have a pic and info on it because im looking forward to catchin one this summer

spiny lizards, like desert spinys, blue spinys, yarrows, (I have (emerald swifts,) there are many different types, anyway when you turn these guys over they (the males) have bright blue on ther bellies.

And many have called them Blue bellies.

Your friends are referring to the Western Fence Lizard, Sceloporus occidentalis. They are a smaller species of Spiny Lizard. These are very common but neat lizards. The males have bright blue throats and stripes down each side of the underbelly. They do "pushups" to flash this blue coloration. There were several subspecies recognized but I believe the new edition of the Stebbins Field Guide has reduced them to two.
