Juvenile BP hasn't eaten in 3 weeks

pyrochic Mar 22, 2005 10:15 PM

It's not my snake but here's what I know:

Scooter is your run of the mill petstore ball, he's about 2 ft long. He's got lots of room (29 gal?) and plenty of places to hide and feel secure. The only source of heat at the moment is an undertank pad, but it is placed directly under his favorite hiding place.

I believe he's usually fed once a week. He gets live mice and is generally pretty enthusiastic about eating.

I have noticed that fasting is pretty common in adult balls, but haven't read anything specifically about it in such a young snake. I'm sure 3 weeks is nothing to panic about but wondered if anyone had any advice.

Thanks.

Don't worry young ball pythons do go into fasting to, wait a week and try feeding again. what is the temp. in his cage. Thanks Scott Glover

they haven't got a thermometer in his cage anymore. If i had a spare I'd give it to them.

I'm thinking that it may not be warm enough, or that he's about to shed. His owner is worried sick though, he'll be glad to know that its normal for the young ones to fast too.

thanks for your input.

Make sure that his ball python cage is about 88-90'F and make sure the bottom of his cage is not to hot if it is lower the temp. and put a 100 watt bulb on top of the ball python cage that should do it (make sure that the light is at only at one end of the cage). Hope This Helps Scott Glover
