milky eye discharge?

grundor Mar 23, 2005 08:09 AM

My juvinile hardiwicki has had one eye closed for the last two days and this morning I noticed milky discharge coming from the open eye. Is this an infection that I can treat with antibiotics? The only other thing I can think of is eye irritation caused by a playsand substrate. It has been shaking its head allot and rubbing on the rock and sand substrate constantly for the last little while. I assumed this was irritation from shedding, but I am not sure.

eye infections can go hand in hand with respiratory infection.

Not trying to alarm you as it could very well be an eye irratation, but anytime you see a discharge , usually mean an infection of some sort.

I would have your juvey looked at by a Vet, as soon as ya can.

In the mean time I would put him on paper towels , atleast until this is cleared up. It can not be helping getting sand in there.

Let us know how he does, hope his eye is bright and feeling better real soon

I had the same thing happen to one of my beardies not too long ago... eye was shut and discharging... I took him to the vet, and she said it was an infection caused by some king of irritation(shed, substrate, etc.) She gave my antibiotics and the infection cleared up in several weeks.
