Stones in a Basin ETB

lichanura Mar 23, 2005 10:51 AM

I posted this in the health section then I noticed that the last post was in Jan. So, I am posting it here again.

My basin had been trying to excrete for about a week. I put her in warm water for over an hour as this has always worked with other constipated snakes. This time it did not work. I tried twice when I decided to take a closer look. I palpated the bulge by the anus and dicovered it to be very hard. Some pressure finally forced a stone to be expelled. When I picked it up it was hard but when I squeezed it, it fragmented to a grainy substance. I am guessing calcium deposit. Any one give me any of their experiences with this on their reptiles?

Concentrated salts of uric acid...urate...? Hard,well-formed particles are the norm and if the animal was constipated and/or dehydrated, it could be even more pronounced.
