Painted? California Kingsnake

Amanda E Mar 23, 2005 02:38 PM

Hi. My mom knows of someone who wants to get rid of their snake.

All I know is that the person is calling it a Painted California Kingsnake.

Is there some type of pattern or color morph of L. g. californiae that I am not aware of that is called "Painted"?

Or could this person have some other type of kingsnake? Is there any other type of kingsnake, native to CA that might be called or described as "Painted"?

I have no idea what color the snake is either. It could have red, it might not.

Amanda, it sounds as if it could be a California mountain kingsnake, which are red, white, and black. Or it could be what someone is calling their California common kingsnake (L.g.c).
I think California mountain kingsnake.
