undertank and night heat

knoxbon Mar 23, 2005 06:36 PM

What do the pros think? I'm an avid herper and I was wondering why there is such a big push to use night heat and ground heat? In the wild the sun heats the earth during the day then it cools at night right? So why should I give anything but warm daytime light to my reptiles? Is it all just a sales pitch; heat rocks and pads, night heat bulbs. Thanks

You have to consider where these animals are from. Then jungle generally traps heat under its cannopy and keeps a relatively stable temperature. Perhaps there is a night drop of a few degrees, but the temperatures are still higher than that of your average bedroom.
