(Walmart) Xenopus in little cups??

xenopuszooltd Mar 23, 2005 06:46 PM

it was brought to my attention that Walmart is selling Xenopus (clawed frogs) and Hymenochirus (dwarf frogs) in little cups usually with a plant (similar concept to Aquababies but smaller) in their pet department. These cups are pretty small from what I've been told

I went to walmart, but did'nt find them there, but will continue my search. I was told they were seen at 2 or 3 Walmarts in Michigan..

If anyone comes across them, please let us know here at this forum. You can also email me personally..

I have seen them at just about every Wal-Mart i have been to around here(kansas city, mo). They are all albino, very tiny, and people buy them thinking they are going to stay small. I feel bad for them, but i will not buy any from walmart just so i am not supporting the sale of the frogs. Walmart should not be allowed to sell pets.

i am starting a webpage on planetsave.com to hopefully educate people who are finding the frogs at walmart. I am curious as to what the sales associates are telling people that buy them.

Ultimately I am hoping to stop them from selling them completely in these cups..

Any additional information or if anyone can take photos with a camera phone or digital camera and send them to me that would be great. I would also like to compare a full grown frog with the cup they are being sould in.

Thanks again everyone!

Yeah, they put them in the smaller sized betta cups. THey started doing hermit crabs in the largerbetta cups too. They have them in the walmart in St. Clairsville, OH. Some of the petshops are even starting to keep the dwarfs this way.

ONCE i saw the albinos at walmart in radford, va. but they were kept in the tanks with the fish, not in cups. that was 4 years ago, and after a very angry conversation with the manager and a letter to the corporate office stating how the frogs are restricted anyways, i have not seen them since. i dont know if it was a direct result of me, or something else.

Maybe if others followed in your footsteps, Walmart would stop selling them all together. especially these frogs in cups. the thought of that disgusts me. those are worse then the GAF cube of death.

when did u get a luecistic ratsnake..blue or black eyes? seen an albino one before
