Cali King, feeding, shedding, growing pretty damn fast....healthy?

HerperHelmz Mar 23, 2005 08:48 PM

Hey all,

I got my little albino cali king male back on December 23rd, he was just about 12 inches long. At that point, I had probably 4 ringneck snakes that could of eaten him(lol, not that I would ever feed a $60 snake to another snake), and at this point, he is about 19 inches long, very thick, and the only ringnecks that I have that could take him down are 2 adult 22" females. He's getting to be a big boy, and should be ready to breed in the spring of 2006. But what I want to know, is his feeding and shedding regimen good?

Since I got him, he has eaten 52 day old pinky mice. He gets 2 to 4 pinkies every 2 to 4 days, unless he is in shed. He shed once in January, twice in February, and right now he is going into another shed.

Anyone have any comments or anything on this? I'm doing this all right? This was my first kingsnake, so I am not as experienced with them as I am with the 'tiny' snakes.

All the cals in my collection have grown much slower than any of my other common king types. Is your cal growing faster than your eastern? If so then you must be doing something right.

Yeah he's growing faster than the eastern, considering the eastern died like a month ago lol. Kept regurging meals, not much I could do. I have that nice male from Will Still coming, finally bought it, it's about 18 inches long and quite colorful.

Well, you're feeding him between 4-8 pinky mice a week!! That's a lot! I don't think it's bad to feed as much as a growing snake will take either. Fast growth should be expected. Seems to be doing real well!

I've got a friend with two corns, and he refuses to feed more than one fuzzy per week. Those poor corns are so small and skinny. He thinks that is the right amount of food 'cause he read one care sheet that says to feed snakes once per week. They're healthy, but RUNTS!!
