looking for good gecko

seanpkeen Mar 24, 2005 12:08 AM

hello all,

im an out of date herper looking to get back into the hobby. Ive always loved geckos, but am a lil tired of leo's. Ive been looking at leaf tails and crested and cant seem to make up my mind. Overall hardiness is what concerns me the most and any info/comments/suggestions are welcome.

well i only have4 leos and golden geckos but i would recomend golden geckos if u have a large enough terrarium for them they arent that hard to take care of. they just need to be misted 3 times a day and fed speraticly. they like to be suprised by therer food. lol. well hope this helpes you and good luck with your decision

are so many very COOL geckos, to say the least. Ya have the cresties that are so amazing, and gargoyles. And the super PRETTY day geckos.

And the incredible leaftails, such an AWESOME creature.

I have a giant day, a central american banded, and a reversed trio of Uroplatus henkeli (leaftails)

The leaftails, just need mostly to be cooler and be misted a couple times a day. They dehydrate fast if your not disiplined about care. And are nocturnal, so if you like veiwing your gecks in the day time (these guys may not be for you)

heres a pic of Barkley, one of my henkeli leaftails out walking on the redeye frog tank

true that. I hope to have my collection up considerably in may/june. My landlord is being really cool about my pets, but i dont want to press it. With more time, i can invest more and yada yada yada. However, i found an old dresser which i hope to make into a cage. Would this be potentially bad for a crest or leaftail? Let me know.

I know people who have used them for cages and they turn out quite awesome.

But these lizards do like to climb so like I said if it is a tall one it would work.

no doubt that it would turn out pretty good. I realized after posting that with the humidity required the wood/particle board would start to rot pretty quick. I dunno. Ill prolly turn it into a cage for my monitor but its still up in the air. Ill defintetly post when im done. BTW, where did you get your chucks? I always remembered loving them as a kid and was just curious.

I have 3 chuckwallas, all from different people. The biggest male nevada chuck, named Chewalla, I got as a 9 week old hatchling, hes 4 years old now, and is a LAP chuck, so dang friendly, he follows me around the room, FUNNY guy.

The smaller redback male I got over a year ago from a very knowlegdable and good reptile buddy into chucks, stop by the chuck forum and give em a holler, tgreb if he does not have any he usually knows who does.

And I have a female I got at 6 days old from someone who accidently turned the incubator off too soon and she hatched, very crippled. Shes now going on 3 years and scaddles around fine.

I would like to get a couple breedable females (down the line) to busy right now , but one day!

I love chucks!
SPUNKY, and have attitude, hehehhehe

Sean, I have a care sheet I printed out from that same buddy Tom Greb. But I do not have it in my files anymore.

I would say when ya come to the chuck forum, (NICE bunch) we discuss all our desert species, anyway, have a post Attention tgreb, and tell him Eve sent ya over, and you would appreciate chuckwalla care sheets, and whatever else you want to know.

He loves talking chucks and knows what hes talking about for darn sure! I think quite highly of him,

I have 1.1 cresteds and they are my favorite lizards! they are the best geckos I have come across. I have 3 leos and the cresteds are much calmer. they are the most docile geckos ever! Go with a crested! leaf tails are display only along with many other geckos. Cresteds love the handling! They are easy to care for and great lizards overall! Im going to get more soon!

if you want the coolest most awesome gecko around that you can handle, GO with Cresteds!!!

If you like cresteds you may love gargoyal geckos. They are in the same family but what's so great about them is that they don't need a basking light or much heat at all. They aren't as colorful as cresteds but they try much harder to blend in with their surroundings. Other than that they are just like cresteds.
