For me, the carpondros just don't look good enough for me to produce them. I would rather have nice looking carpets and GTPs, but that is just my opinion, which could change if someone produces some really killer looking ones. I think the bottom line is, as many have said before, that you have to go with what you like.

I dont like em...i think the prices on hybrids are extremely inflated...to me the carpondros are a 50 dollar snake...thats the most i would give for one..even if i bought one. If you like em get yourself one...i just dont care for hybrids at all.

2 thumbs down for me. I don't agree with hybridization, but it's going to happen regardless. I like the idea of purity better. However, I know many people who feel the exact opposite. So, it's whatever "floats your boat." =)

Oh, I definitely agree Carpondros are over priced.

Carpondros-What do you think?

The best carpondro that I have seen was created by a male IJ and a female chondro. You can see it at Yasser's site, www.spitfirereptiles.com. Most of the carpondros have used female carpets and there does seem to be a difference.

That said, the price is high because they are a novelty. Same thing with ball/blood hybrids and angolan/ball hybrids. If you want one, it's cheaper and more fun to buy an adult of each and make them yourself.

It is OK if done for the right reason. If a specific look is desired or if a specific trait would do well in another species. And the breeder has an ethical responsibility to sell only to trustworthy individuals who will NEVER release such an animal into the wild and potentially disrupt the ecosystem. That isn't a big concern with carpondros in the US but could be in Indonesia and Australia. And it could be an issue with colubrids here in the US.
