Yellow Monitor Spaz.....

STUART Mar 24, 2005 02:54 PM

So just a quick question to those who keep Yellow monitors. I bought a baby yellow 2 years ago. She is still very skittish when I go anywhere near the cage. I NEVER handle her because when I do she looks like shes about to have a heart attack. So for the most part Ive just left her alone and fed her etc. But after two years she still freaks out whenever I walk by flying into the side of the cage jumping off limbs whatever. Im just wondering because Ive had other monitor species before that generally calm down and get used to me but this girl is still a spaz after two years. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is how these animals are most of their life?

Pic when she was just a little thing:

ive kept a melinus for a little over a year... he/she has settled down some but still very skittish, hides most of the day and is only active from around 5 am to 10 am...feeds from tongs but still remain skittish and wary of my presence...im no expert but i believe they are just a very skittish species...beautiful animals though..hope this helped

uh, it only gets worse. they are a skittish monitor for life, and never big on handling. there are certainly high quality captive bred babies available, and they are beautitul, but they are the wrong choice for anyone that really wants to either see or interact with their monitor.

I had one for three years and it never calmed down. Just walking into the room was enough for her to vanish out of site.
