beardie won't eat...Help!!!

denise1 Mar 24, 2005 03:00 PM

I just got my beardie set up in his new 75 gallon aquarium on sunday evening...sun. eve he ate well...monday he ate well, maybe just slightly less than norm...teus,wed and now today he isn't eating much at all...maybe 30 crix at most and these are smaller than his normal ones...hasn't touched his fruits and veggies yet today and he's always been good at eating them...the new rock (bigger) we got for him heated up to 120 at the hottest spot...since he was used to 113 at hottest we lowered the temp down...that rock is now 92.7 at hottest...we placed his old rock in, it's 114 at hottest...the ambient temp is 95 on one side and 80 at the other...he drank alot yesterday, more than ever before...he went to the corner last night to sleep early and stayed there late today...he hasn't pooped yet today but probably because he hasn't been eating much...all previous days it was as normal...he turns 4 months old on saturday...he normally is a big eater...so what I'm wondering is, could it be stress of moving that is causing the behavior change...the only other thing I could think it would be is parasites, but would it cause him to go off food that quickly...he seems a little shier about us but he did let friends hold and feed him last night without acting aggressive...any help would be greatly appreciated...how long could it take to get used to the new place if it is just stress...

Get the heat rocks out of there, or turn them off. They tend to get hot spots and cause severe thermal burns! Beardies dont have heat sensors on their tummies, so they wont know if its too hot. It may take a couple days for him to acclimate to his new enclosure. My 2 girls just got a new tank a couple weeks ago, and for the first day or so, they didnt eat much, but were fine after that.

sorry for the confusion...I don't have heat rocks...wouldn't go near them for nothing, I know of the dangers...what I have is river rocks with the spot light on for basking...he ate more crix tonight so maybe he is settling in...and we've removed the larger rock that does not reach the correct basking temp since he may have stayed there, it being the highest spot...thank you...
