Need opinions

Hi all, i just got back from the local reptile specialty store that i got my crested Zeek from. They have the most beautiful baby fire crested gecko (at least thats what it looks like....bright rusty red with lighter marks on its back). I'd love to add him/her to my family but i was wondering:

I need to quarentine it from Zeek right? For at least 3 months? And can i put the both of their cages side by side so they can see eachother and get used to eachother? If they turn out to be both female (not sure yet, but i'm getting the idea that Zeek IS a boy...i'll post a pic and see if anyone can confirm that for me i'd like to put them together one day, if they turn out to be opposites....well i'm not ready for babies yet hehehe. I do have 10,20 and 25gal tall tanks, as well as the largest critter keepers i could find (thats what Zeek is in now...the door is great....theres been no further escape attempts LOL).

I was also thinking i could split the 25 gal in half (i get the feeling its larger than 25 gal since it takes up the entire top of my hope chest...) I know the babies should be kept in smaller cages for now, but i'm trying to think ahead too.

Any help is very much appreciated
Thanks in advance
Red

Yeah quarantine really is a good idea. They should be placed as far away from each other as possible, at least opposite sides of the room. This way there is a less likely chance of any contaminates spreading to your other animals. Make sure you are washing your hands when going cage to cage too. Since it is from a pet store you might also want to think about getting a fecal to check for parasites, up to you. It sounds like over kill, but you just never know. If and when they turn out to be a pair the “25” you are unsure about will be perfect to house the both of them . Best of Luck.

I wrote out an entire responce and i lost it (hate getting booted).......GRRRRRRRR LOL

Oh well here it goes again.

Thanks Mike for your input.....i'll quarentine any new arrivals. I'm not even sure if it'll still be there or if i'll get it but its good to know what i should do. I want to express how amazing this *pet store* is. They specialize in exotic pets and alot of the animals they have they own themselves. Their adult iguana is absolutely a marvel (its hands are as large as mine). I've had experience with BAD petstores and i've done alot of searching for good ones. The humaine society has gotten together with a few and now offers rescued animals (cats & dogs). My vet is familiar with this particular place and said only good things

I do wish i could be in contact with an actual breeder since theres a certain morph of leopard gecko that i'm interested in. I'm not totally comfortable with ordering online.......so for now thats out, plus i've found few Canadian breeders and most are out of province.

I appreciate your advice
Thanks again,
Red
