Hello,

I am looking to get a gecko of some description. I have kept many ground dwelling species before. This time i would like to try something different.

Can you suggest any of the padded foot gecko`s that are handleable/friendly? I remember watching Jeff Corwin in Madagascar finding Uroplatus Sikorae and they looked pretty cool, i just dont want anything that dear right now. For some reason i feel drawn to the sticky padded gecko`s. Don`t know the proper name for them.

I have been considering a crested gecko, any others that i should be looking at? I have kept tokay`s before, i dont want anything that aggressive, ever again .

Space is not a factor as i potentially have a 5.5`x2`x2` for my new aquisition(s)

I am grateful for any input/suggestions

Phil

If you like padded feet geckos you may want to really consider day geckos. They come in a variety of colors and sizes and are all active during the day (hence the name 'day gecko'). They are as vocal if not more vocal than tokay geckos but are much more mild mannered. They are easy to maintain (especially the Standing's Day Gecko which doesn't require much humidity) and live for around 20 years. The only minor drawback is that you don't want to handle them very much because of their delicate skin.

if you want a padded foot gecko you could try golden geckos, they are kind of like tokay's but less agressive and lack the size that tokays get, goldens get 6-8 inches. they do need high humidity though and a basking spot of 90 degresse well the rest of the tank should be around 85 and it should drop about 10 degresse. well hope you consider golden geckos.

Cresteds are a great choice, in fact any of the Rhacodactylus would be, depending on how much money you want to spend. I wouldn't recommend Phelsuma if you plan on handling them, since their skin is so delicate. Great fun to watch, though. Likewise, Tokays and their relatives (G. vittatus, G. ulikovskii, G. petricolus, etc.) generally aren't too keen on being handled.

Other possibilities are Ptychozoon kuhlii, Ptychozoon lionatum, Oedura monilis, Oedura castelnaui, Oedura marmorata, or Paroedura pictus, although the last one isn't much of a wall climber from what I understand.
