I personally like Nikons. I don't have the 4100 I have an earlier model that has the same features but is only 3.1 Mega pixels. Anyway they have a lot of features and a very nice macro mode, I haven't had any problems with mine. I have also used other Nikon cameras and they have all been great both digital and 35mm.

That pic was taken with a Nikon 885 which is a few models before the 4100. Has pretty much the same features including the macro distance but is only 3.1 Megapixels, so you would get better quality with the 4100. You can also buy macro and telephoto lens for it as well.

Basically the same camera. I love the thing. Beats the crap out of my old Kodak 110. =)

I've had a Nikon 4300 for 18 months and like it, but that is a slightly different model from the 4100.

Try looking on www.dpreview.com. It has reviews from owners of the camera along with its features. I like the site's comparison feature for comparing different cameras.

There's nothing like having a good camera and capturing some great shots. I love experimenting with different techniques and trying new things. I have only used Nikon cameras and I think they are great. I personally believe that there is something about the way they capture coloration specifically in reptiles, that sets them apart from other camera manufacturers. I have never used any other types of cameras so I can't really comment on how Kodak or Sony or Cannon, etc. cameras are but i can tell you that I have no desire to ever switch from Nikons to another manufacturer.

I started with the Nikon Coolpix 950 which I absolutely loved. I went from that to the Coolpix 995 which was even better because it had a pop-up flash so it didn't wash out my photos as much. I upgraded from the CP995 to the Coolpix 5700. Now that is a fantastic camera too. I only had the CP5700 for a short time before I decided that what I really wanted was more control and flexibility with my equipment so I switched to a D100. That's what I currently use and I love it. I had the Coolpix 3100 somewhere inbetween and had a little experience with the Coolpix 4500 as well.

In the lower price range, I would absolutely recommend the Coolpix 995. They no longer make this camera so you would have to get a used one or find a retailer who still had some new ones in stock. I know you can get it off of Ebay pretty easily and for a fairly cheap price too. In a little higher price range, the Coolpix 5700 is an EXCELLENT camera which retails new for about $450 to $550 now.

I've never used the Coolpix 4100 but if it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, I'm sure it's a great camera too. I don't think you can really go wrong with a Nikon. It might take a little getting used to and a bit of reading and lots of experimenting, but I think you'll probably be very happy with your choice!

I hope this helps...

Thanks,
Celia
