Hey, where is everyone? I don't ask too many questions on here but I do read everyday. I am missing the replies from the experienced regulars.

Hey, I guess Im one.
I have been on another forum for the past month. All the exper. people from here are there. I kind of get tired of this forum being ONLY guestions, so I am at the other forum where we share pictures and just talk about leo's. Nothing to KS, just on a diff. forum.

I'm a regular, I come here at least 10 times a day (since the only thing that takes up my time is my college courses which I only go to 1 hour of class everyday and I have 2 online courses) I frequent this place everyday.
ManhattanHerps is real good. (I think Manhattan is a He, I'm not sure) He/She is a leopard breeder and so is GreggMM I think.
They are both really good at answering questions if you ever need anything answered put MANHATTAN or GREGG in caps in the Subject name box, that usually grabs attention pretty quickly around here.

I Read the Kingsnake forums everyday here and a few others but never really post as alot of the time i do not have too. I have asked questions and had no replies, so generally when that happens i tend to use the SEARCH facility and normally it works out pretty well. I think a few of the experienced breeders get a bit fed up with noobs to Leo's and don't bother posting or helping out as it would be a waste to post when all they have to do is use some initiative and SEARCH for it themselves. Just my 2 Cents
I do read, but refuse to post replies to questions from lazy people who can't do a little research, which, imo should have been done before you get the pet. once in a while I'll answer one when no one else does, but I don't see the point in replying w/a link to a care sheet. And yes, there are a LOT of young, inexperienced keepers here. That is not a bad thing, but too much to take for all the time.

I do my fair research from time to time, such as I asked for Reptile Books for Christmas, that way I know what I'm doing is right and that I don't need to change a thing, so I got one on Beardeds, Uromastyx and Leopard gecko's.
The only time I actually post questions, is when I cannot find what I'm looking for when I search kingsnake or the rest of the net.

Agreed. I do around half a years research before I buy my reptile. Everything from the cage to teh lighting to the humidity to the ins and outs of the reptile themsleves. And let me tell you, you cant learn everything you want to learn in half a year. It dosnt work. people need to surf the web before asking. Not trying to sound harsh, but thats what google is for. All you need it type is 'leopard gecko candleing' to find out how to tell if your eggs are fertile or infertile. Or even 'How do you tell if leopard gecko eggs are fertile' to learn about candleing. Its not hard.
Guys and Gals, they're talking about people who, for example, come in asking questions that could easily be found by looking at pg. 1 of their leo manual.
"My leo's colors have been majorly fading in the past couple of days, and her skin looks a little loose! HELP!!! What's going on?!?!?!" Umm... She's Shedding...
You know what I mean? Questions like that are easily looked up. Newbies who have actually done their research aren't normally going to revert to asking questions that are answered in the manuals because they've already read the manual, and they can't find the answer simply by googling.
There's a difference between asking questions that you could look versus asking a question for clarification on something you read.
Sometimes those of us who've been here for a while get tired of the first set of questions; when you hear us complaining about newbies, that's what we're talking about. If you've done your research, and now you're looking for clarification on a subject, or you're extending your knowledge, you're not really so much a "newbie."

i am also very irritated by anyone who buys a pet without having done their research. hermit crabs are the closest i've come to an impulse pet, and i did a month of research. i researched sugar gliders for a year an a half before i got mine!
just had to back you up on that one.

Thanks to all that replied. I just like to read what info the regulars give. I see that some are still around, thank goodness.
most of the big-time breeders are too busy caring for their animals. personally, i get bored of reading the same questions, and i HATE it when people use stupid net-speak. like 'u wan 2 give...'' man, i can't even imitate it. it's like they're fourth graders with computers. and that would be fine, but then i discover they're my age (i'm 23), and asking breeding questions! so i just get so infuriated with people that sound like morons, they can't spell or even make sense, asking basic questions that could easily be answered by any decent website or book on leos.
anyways. sorry, i let the angst out.
but that's why i personally only make occasional, sporadic appearances. that and i am busy. i've got 13 leos, and lots of other pets, i work, and i'm a student. (this is my spring break.)
hope that helps, though i only have three years of experience, not sure how much that counts for.

I'm not overly experienced yet with reptiles and I've got to admit that I bought my first gecko on what you might call an impulse but I'd been wanting one for years. I personally try to research everything before I ask but sometimes you can't find the information you need so you have to ask people that have more experience than you do. Sure the questions might seem stupid but its better to ask a stupid question than to not ask a question at all and the let the animals suffer because they can't always tell you what they need, what they want or whats wrong. No one will ever know everything there is to know about a certain animal this is what learning is all about. Since getting my reptiles I've done research for other people to let them know what they're getting into before they find out the hard way. I'm not saying that I found out the hard way because I didn't. I started out small and ended up with more than I bargained for in the end but as I've said I'd rather know an animal is getting care than to leave it in a bad situation or send it to one. Personally I don't mind answering questions when I can no matter how stupid they may be because I'm happy to know that people are actually seeking the information to help their pets life a happy and healthy life.
I agree.. To me, it doesn't matter if there's a caresheet on the other page, I won't be selfish with my time because it could mean the life or happiness of a single leo. I'm not an expert, but I have been coming here since I was 13-14 years old.. My first nickname was TebbyGecko or AtlanticReptiles, I can't remember now, but.. Point is.. Even if it's hard to deal with newer people, we need to stick it out for the Leo's sake. I try to answer any question that I can give a helpful answer to.. If I think my answer might not be progressive at all, I wait for a more experienced keeper to help. Anyway, there's a few people, including myself, who go around and help new people wih alot of "stupid questions" and I personally love it. It's a rewarding little job to do because it benefits both the new keeper and their animals. See you around.

of course, it's nice to be helpful, but there are limits and time constraints on people's time and patience. this is especially the case if you check multiple forums for multiple pets. see my point?

I'm not suggesting we should have no spare time for ourselves, my reply wasn't to you actually, lol. Another person was sort of going on about how it's sort of a bother to help newer people and I was saying: Why not help people/animals in need if we're perfectly capable? I don't really see what the problem is, lol.

I wrote that(The first post) when I had first woke up, so my memory wasn't all there. Anyway, basically, my message was in my previous post.. I don't see it as troublesome.. I understand totally when people are busy, but you were sort of bashing on the new people, lol. -Shrugs- Patience is totally a must have on kingsnake.com.

I just like to read what info the regulars give. I don't really have to ask any questions because someone has already done so. I appreciate the time everyone takes on answering questions. My sons have geckos so I try to keep up with all info. I also give my friend info about hers after finding similar questions and answers on the forum. Thanks to all for your info.
