Drip system

khorne08 Jul 09, 2003 01:36 PM

For all who need to know my chameleon is much better. His eye is wide open and he is eating some again. Ok, well. I need a new dripper. Can any1 give me any sites or stores that have good systems? My local petstore does...and its absolute rubbish. It leaks, Its messy, it falls apart, it sucks. Any brand names and stores would be great.

i may just be a moron but i have (well had) a little dripper and i coukd never change the flow very easily and every time i picked it up or touched it i would spend an hour with it dripping all over me readjusting it

here's what i did, works great
1) buy a 2/1/2 gallon tupperware container
2) poke hole(s) in one corner
3) get a small plastic cup ( preferably green or brown, something to blend in)
4) drill a hole in the bottom ( or side) of it
5) seal a tube with silicone in the hole
6) set up the vines for the drip system leading into the cup and out of the cage into a 2/1/2 gallon ( or larger container)
this way you never have to worry about the cham. pooping in the container with the water in it, AND ( here's the best part) when the dripper empties, you just pick up the bucket and dump it into the tupperware container. just fill it up as needed and change the water every week.

I've never used the big or little drippers. I can't see paying money for something that I could make just as easily for less. Also, everyone complains about how hard they are to adjust. I just don't think that the fine adjustment that the big or little drippers offer is that important.

I just poke a pinhole in the bottom of a 32oz cup. I fill it up a couple of times a day as well as misting. I position the cup so that the drips will fall onto several vines or leaves one after the other - that way he sees lots of moving drops. It must work - he drinks!

My cage has a screen bottom and a cement tub built into the stand below for catching water.

This is just he way that I do it.

i started out with the mini dripper and it worked for about a week then leaked like a sive. luckly i didn't have my chameleon yet(i was just setting it up and ironing out the bugs)! that weekend was the IRBA show in pomona, ca we went to check it out and i bought another dripper there from naturally exotic(www.naturallyexotic.com) for $6.00. it is MUCH BETTER MADE then the mini dripper. i used that for 2 or 3 weeks until i realized i needed to automate and i ended up buying a misting system from wet works.
