You have come down fairly hard on me, and many other "newbies" on this forum, THANK YOU! I truly do appreciate it. I have learned more from reading your previous post, and recent post, than I would have ever learned asking so many senseless questions. For instance, your bit about learning from your monitor, not from asking people questions. Its my monitor, not theirs, and how would they know?? its an induvidual. So after thinking that over, i decided that with my new savannah she needed some sort of stimulation to get her active. So i switched from cypress mulch to a sand/soil mix. That was the trick, she immediately began digging her burrow, and exploring her cage, and for once even basking. Before, she was on cypress mulch. And all she did was hide. I guess she this new substrate stimulated her to want to be more active. Again thank you for your advice and criticism, please keep it coming.

Thanks again,

Kevin

First, I did not come down hard on you or anyone. I simply told it like it is(with my experience) You should consider the experience of anyone you recieve input from. You should take advice from other beginers for what it is, advice from beginers. And advice from experienced folks for what it is, advice from those with experience.

I understand that its hard for you to understand those with experience and its far easier for you(beginers) to understand other beginers, as you are on a equal level and not on the level of someone with experience.

So i ask, should I speak down to you or treat you as an equal? I choose to treat you as an equal and speak to you in a strait forward manner. Its your task to try to understand me, not my task to make you understand me. After all, there are lots and lots of other people around here giving beginer advice. If its beginers advice your looking for, then go with that, its plentyful and widespread, but what good will that do you???????

About your sav. If you would have read some monitor books, you would have read that they do not come from forests, jungles or swamps. Which means, they simply do not understand or avoid areas with leaflitter(forests/jungles) or cypress mulch(swamps) They occur in areas of poor soils, that is what they understand. You should have known that. Habitat selection is key to survival. In captivity, you give them the wrong habitat and they do not survive. In captivity, you are making their choices. Good luck and keep using your head. FR
