I Need a Bit of Help

Reticulatus Mar 25, 2005 10:52 AM

Hey Guys,
The other day I ventured into a local petshop to see what was new in reptiles, a buddy of mine that worked there wanted to show me ribbon snakes. Now ribbon snakes to me aren't anything very excited though I do think they are cool little snakes. But he showed me to that he said were sold to them and western ribbon snakes and then one sold as a florida. Now this florida looked very interresting, so I decided that ngiht to do some research every single florida ribbon snake I saw was brown and yellow, but the guy at the store wasn't. He was a light blue color and a dark charcoal grey, although the blue sometimes did look silver. I decided to buy the little guy (even though everyone thought I was crazy considering I keep high end boas, pythons and monitors) thinking I possibly fould an axanthic ribbon snake, and I thought if it wasnt it should be a cool little addition to my educational shows.

So since you guys are the experts, what do you think?

Thank you

Justin Morash

P.s I already thought about it being a florida blue garter and it's definatly a ribbon snake.

Did you even consider the bluestripe ribbon snake?

Sounds like what you've got is a Blue striped ribbon snake (T. sauritus nitae). It's found along the BigBend area of Florida and you do see them from time to time coming in with other ribbons and such to pet stores.

Hey,
yeah accually I have consider blue-stripes and the probley is, is that every picture of other blue-stripes has look extremely different from the one I have. Plus I did a scale count to the head of my snake compared to a diagram of a blue-stripes head. Now I'm still thinking it may be, I'm totally for the idea.Whos knows the pictues I've seen where horrible and the diagram could have been incorrect. Just could anyone show me a few of thier pictues of them. Maybe someone else has a better picture for me to follow.

Thank you very much
