111 days after POS shed - When do I start to worry?

snakepimp Mar 25, 2005 01:51 PM

I have a first-year-breeder Argentine female who is not dropping. She was active for several days last week and I thought she was goind to drop then. Everything has seemed "normal" up until this point. She is not moving around too much now. How many days past the "due date" until I take her to the vet? What is the longest acceptable period of gestation? I am freaking out here...

Hey Jeremy, I saw on the Rich Ihle video that Tracy Barker had one go 140 days. Rich said it was due to temps. What were and are your temps during gestation? I know I would probably be thinking about an ultrasound at a vet, just to make sure she is not bound or something. Has she passed the waxy stool? Good luck , Andy

She has not passed the waxy stool, but she did pass some slightly watery urates about 5 days ago. The Temps in the room are 82-DTH and 84-NTL, and are the identical inside the cage. She has a heat pad on one end running about 95 degrees. She does not hug the heat, only at night does she get on it. During the day she goes to the hide on the cool end and coils up. The cage is 4x2x2, and so is plenty big enough to move around in, as far as exercise. She hardly moved at all for the majority of the gestation, but has been much more active, of late. Just not active enough.

Being your temps are lower than what I used, it may just be a longer gestation. The watery urates...was it a white milky pastey type? If so that could be it, and she may go soon. Andy

Not really milky, just sort of normal urates with a little extra water.

The temps could have a lot to due with the time frame. Like snake eggs, The temps kept at a lower but still safe end of things will make a longer gestation period. The longest I have ever had was 119.
Good Luck

I thought temps might have been the answer, I guess I need a slightly larger heat-pad-area, or something. They seem to be doing fine, and as long as they come out healthy, I will be happy. My temps seem to be just like the books, with all of my thermometers they vary only 1 degree in any directions, but I guess i am just being a worry wart. Better late than early. Early=slugs and preemies...so I'll count myself lucky so far.
