Can I freeze greens?

southernpawsc Mar 25, 2005 01:51 PM

Do you think the greens will lose their nutritional value, or "appeal" if I freeze them? I know that we humans don't usually eat a freshly frozen green after it's been thawed, but I wonder if Tarzan would mind. (wonder if it'd be too soft for him to bite as well)

Just a curiosity in case any greens I do buy him start to go old before we eat them.

I am wondering the same thing. My guys don't eat them fast enough before they go bad. I don't know if you can freeze greens or not.

Hi Sarah,

I know for human consumption, that greens can be cooked first and frozen to eat later. Depending on the method of cooking, nutrients can be lost too. I believe steaming is the best way to preserve the nutrients, but I don't know if soft cooked greens are good for the turtle.

Seems like this would be a very silly question, but I don't want to do something that could be harmful to him.

Looks like we might not get a good answer for this one.

Have a good weekend!
Christi
