Woma Breeding Question

Jim_O Mar 25, 2005 05:50 PM

Some of you have heard this saga on another forum but I'm looking for some information.

My adult female Woma just produced a clutch of 13 eggs. It was a bit of a surprise to me as she ate twice (a large rat both times) after what I thought would be and actually was her prelay shed.

Anyone here had similar experiences with Womas, or any pythons for that matter?

hey jim. derek from the "other" forum.......i've had carpets eat after pre-lay shed before. not before though. happened a few times with different females and one female ate twice before laying. at that point, i don't think digestion would have much effect on the eggs. your's were healty right?

Derek,

She was refusing before her pre-lay shed. She ate twice after, like yours. Yes, surprisingly she produced 13 viable eggs. They all look good. Some that she hadn't coiled around were a bit sunken but are looking better after a couple of days.

Thanks,

I have not had one feed, but I have had copulations after the prelay shed on a couple of occassions, which is not supposed to happen.

That's also interesting. They are weird snakes. I guess that's all that I can say.

At least I have a beautiful "baker's dozen" eggs. Seems a couple of large rats didn't harm them as all of the eggs were viable when she laid them.
