Shvar, water question

seablazer Mar 25, 2005 06:03 PM

What size water container do you use for Sobek's cage?

Currently, in my BT's cage (10x5x5), I'm using a sweater box that is 4'(L)x3'(W)x1.5'(D)... It's becoming a hassel to keep the water clean in something that size, especially since my BT has decided that every other day or so he'll leave me a suprise in the water and out comes LOTS of water...

Is there really a set limit as to size? The only reason mine is so big is because he(the BT) likes to sit in the water every so often, but then again, he gets plenty of time soaking the in the bathtub once a week.

Should I go smaller, or just stick with what I have and deal with the large water replacements?

my rough neck just likes to see me clean it. when i give fress water she just kickes up cypress mulch right into it and i have 2 clean it again.

i was think what about a filter like a fish one

My tub actually had a drain.. I had a hose running from it to an old fluval canister filter...

Lets just say that I no longer have the drain in it anymore.. The problem was that the amount of waste my blackthroat put in the water was and is extreme... One dump would clog the filter almost immediately, and this was a filter for a 75 gallon fish tank and since it was running with a lot less tubing, the pressure on it was less also!

The other major problem I had was that all the urine that came out with it COULD NOT be taken out of the water... The water might have looked "clean," but in actuality, it was awful...

Now I just slide out the whole container, but it is getting crazy... Not to mention that the 2 foot drop to the floor had the unwanted effect of splashing lots of stinky water everywhere.

Go to the hardware store, get a valve, a connector and some silicone. Drill a hole in the tub, place the valve in the tub, seal it and hook a hose to it when you need to clean.
Or you can always just buy a large shop vac and suck it out.

The valve is there.. My main problem is getting the damn thing to stop stinking... I usually just pull it out because it is a lot easier to disinfect that way...

I have a few set up with valves. I drain one and replace it with a clean one. then I send my son outside with soap and water and he cleans it.

Just set it with silicone, hook up the hose and drain.

When they did it was a pain cleaning it every time. I used a large water dish with Sobek when I built this cage shes in but she didnt soak or crap in it, she just drank from it and occaisionally threw some dirt in it, so now she has a much smaller dish. Theres no way around cleaning it alot if its needed really. The idea with the drain valve is good.
