Can you overfeed a ball python?

gregw82 May 16, 2003 03:08 PM

Hey everyone. I just got a new baby 15inch python and i'm not sure how much to feed it. I started out feeding it 1 fuzzy mouse per week. Last week I fed it 2 the same day. Is this to much or to little for this size/age snake?

My thoughts would be....sure, you can overfeed anything with a mouth. But questions to ask are
How big a lump and how long did it last? And when was he hungry again? If he starts taking 2 fuzzys each week I would move him up a bit in prey size. But a 15inch baby is pretty small. So I wouldn't panic yet.

Ball pythons can take adult mice/ rat pups from the egg. Step it up would be my opinion. They are pretty greedy if they aren't picky.

Be careful about over feeding him though. I have heard many cases about ball pythons becoming obese because they were fed too much. Just something to keep in mind.

....to see what happens when you overfeed...also see my post for this same question in the old BP forum. Scott
