breeding/ off spring question

reptilefreak101 Mar 25, 2005 06:15 PM

i was looking at the classified and saw a pair of 100% het piebald for 1000 dollard, and a pair of 100% het albino for 900. good deals.

my question is i might start to bredded some snakes if my mom lets me, build a little rack system in my room.

my question is if i breed any 1. 100% hets togher will i get like one of them like 100% albinos will i get a albino after they breed, bc i will wait until im done with college then to start(wana be a vet ) so some herps would be a good thing to see at a vet office( i wana be an exotic vet)

thanks

I think you're trying to ask what the offspring of breeding hets together should turn out to be. If that's the case, breeding 2 100% hets together, statistically/mathematically, you're supposed to end up with 1/4 of the clutch visibly exhibiting the trait the hets are carrying and the other 3/4 are 66% hets. But that's just statistics. You can get all or none, 1, 2, whatever. But they shouldn't "statistically" all be.

there is a chance i might not even get a albino/ pie out of the hets. that kind stinks, but i was telling my mom about the rack system i would build and she didnt say no so that is good. with the rack system all you need id the heat tape to heat them right. cant it melt the rubbe maid buckets.

can people post some pics of there rack systems like front view and the heating way.

thanks

Your odds of producing at least one homozygous from breeding a pair of hets increase with the number of eggs you hatch. Below is a link to a table giving the odds for various clutch sizes.

It's always a good idea, and essential with short pieces of heat tape, to wire a rheostat in series with your thermostat so that even if the thermostat turns the tape full on it doesn't get hot enough to melt the plastic.

Hey Randy,

If you breed 2 100% hets of a recessive mutation, and get 7 eggs, what is the probability of exactly 2 or less with the mutation phenotype???

Just testing you LOL.... you are always there with the ratio that counts as far as breeding goes (at least 1).

i was looking at them i was gunna find out if mine is a male or female when i got it it said female so just wna get checked,
this is what it says on the container i bought it in,

albino het 2
(Female sex sign) (black back)
003

retail $200

im gunna contack the owner next week bc it is easter weekend,

do you think it is a het for albino or a black back

so i was thinking of getting a het for something to go with the female then breed them and then breed the babies or you cant do that or will the babies die

thanks for the help

Tom,

I would have to dig out my old statistics book to answer your "2 or less" question. Let me know if you REALLY want to know.

Freak,

$200 sounds pretty low for the retail price on a het albino female. Does the symbol have an arrow point or a cross? You don't see any percentages listed (like 50% or 66%)?

Blackback is just a pattern type and it's quite possible for a het albino to also happen to have the black back pattern. AFAIK being het albino and having that pattern are completely unrealated.

When possible you should probably avoid inbreeding but chances are you wouldn't see any problems if for some reason you did it.
