heating question

a friend of mine gave me a zoo med uth, i was reading on the instructions not to put it to wood.............. thats why i have been thinking about getting the heat cable.
but can anyone here tell me why not to put it to wood?

I presume it's because of the fire risk? I use mine with melamine vivs (which are essentially plastic coated wood) and have never had an overheating problem.

Use a thermostat inside the viv to stop overheating in the first place. If you're going to use the UTH underneath the viv, make sure there's an air gap round it to allow excess heat to escape - don't stand the viv directly on the mat.
