The real motive behind these bands....................

madisonrecords Mar 25, 2005 07:35 PM

I swore to not get into debates anymore, but this is irresistable. I have heard through some inside sources that; " New York and North Carolina and some others, are just the start of what is slowly trying to go Nation wide as far as Reptile Bands. " To get to the point, safety as far as owning Big Burms and Retics and Anacondas along with Crocodillians and large Montors, is one motive. The main motive however, is MONEY! Once again, our greedy government is pissed about another productive business, that is done under the table and they are loosing alot of tax dollars and there is no way for them to really monitor what is being bought and sold in the market. I think that we can all agree that; " 90% of us have never paid in the first taxes on anything that we have sold. " It is not just the Reptile business, but all internet sales are being slowly scrutinized by our wonderful BIG BROTHER! I believe, that if we got together as a community and put our stupid differences aside, we could get with some people in legislation and make some changes that will make BIG BROTHER happy and also benefit most of us. I have come up with some ideas myself and plan on doing some talking with my state and local government on these issues. I need to go right now, but in the morning, I will post some of my ideas and you guys should try to put some stuff together and maybe discuss some possibilities. Until morning, you guys have a good one.......GOD BLESS.......Johnson Herp

Hey IRS, I think you should look into the genius at Johnson herp. Johnson, you've made us look real good. Not only do we keep dangerous animals, 90% of us are tax cheats. Lol. Genius...just.... Genius.

bthacker Mar 25, 2005 09:08 PM

Yeah, I heard they are starting to ban people from breeding dogs cuz there is alot of tax cheats there too.LOL.

I think it actually might have to do with misinformed politicians that have nothing better to do with their time. And it also might have something to do with so many irresponsible keepers and folks generally afraid and misinformed about reptiles.

Just my opinion....the tax idea is a real good one though.lol

DaveyFig Mar 25, 2005 10:54 PM

I think it has more to do with the anti-pet groups being more vocal than the pro-pet guys. Generally, we don't make a stink until the anti groups start something and try to push it through. By then its almost to late and you see all of the forums light up, and people start signing petitions. If we are more vocal than these groups before they try something then we wouldn't have to sweat it so much.
I was listening to the radio, and there was a pole about inappropriate things seen on TV. Only 4% of people had ever called to report that they were offended by something on TV. 95% never called, so we can assume they were not offended, but guess which group is heard louder? The ones that call are the reason I will never see another tata exposed during the superbowl. If the other 95% would call and say they liked what they were seeing, and are fine with the programming, then then the FCC would HAVE to listen.
Same thing with herps.
If we let them know they can't take our herps BEFORE they try, we don't have to try to nip bills that are about to pass.

Hey Johnson, we are not cheats. It's OK to speak for yourself but don't include the rest of the industry in coments like that.

By the way What Band are you listening to? Andy

DaveyFig Mar 25, 2005 10:43 PM

Andy is right. If you are not claiming sales on your taxes, so be it. However, making a post like that on a public forum, where it can be quoted and used by other groups, and untruthfully shows that "none of us pay taxes" is just not right.Statements like that are what feed the politicians. They don't know that you do not represent us as a whole, just that you said most of us don't pay taxes.
You know why there are boxes on tax forms to claim "other income"? For people like me who have a job, and sell some extra things now and then.I don't know what the people I buy from do and do not claim, but that is none of my business.

First off if you are going to represent our community, please remember it is a B-A-N not a B-A-N-D. Second if you do not pay taxes that is your deal, but many of us do. To me it is not really worth it to try and get away with cheating the federal government. I look at it as my donation to the troops, who deserve it. I do applaud your intentions and would love to hear your ideas. I also agree that a unified front from this community would be the difference that saves the industry, I however am quite skeptical that this will ever be accomplished. Too many people have bad blood toward other people, and most of the big breeders(remeber I said most)that could afford to contribute the monies it would take, seem to not really give a crap. As always, just my opinion. Craig Kade

A group of at the moment 6 site communities and various members have been working on setting this up to help fight against unfair and misinformed legislation. www.ieaka.com

It is in its infancy but we have worked quite a bit gathering laws and contact information for the different states..

I hope that the herping community will work together to combat the half thruths and misinformation that is used to fuel these proposed laws.. It just takes working at it to get us to work together..

Just so everyone knows, the site is not only for herp keepers, but all exotic keepers, so spread the word.

I do believe this is a good starting point, I really do. The problem I see is that many people have tried to start things similar to this, so you get 45 members here 25 there. If some of the big busineses (ie kingsnake for example) would stand up and say hey we are out her we have 10,000 members. If kingsnake worked toward this, in all forums (instead of concentrating on raising advertising rates j/k) think of what could be accomplished. Please do not think I am knocking you guys, I do appreciate the effort, but I feel we nee a MUCH more united front. Again, thanks for what you are doing, it is more then I can say for myself. I just feel we really need someone major to stand up and say" hey, my big bussiness is going to collapse if I do not get the little guys(that have made me big money) some help they desperately need. So here let me do this, I challenge k/s to unite the herp world and create a unified front against these silly laws. See where that gets us. To anyone who took the time to read my ramblings, thanks LOL. Craig Kade

I am proud to pay my taxes, or I would be if I ever make enough to not get a refund. hahaha!
I keep close track of expenses and income, but I never cheat.
Never.
It is unfortunate that, you cannot spell, yet you wish to implicate so many honest business people in an imagined tax fraud which is not likely to exist, and that even that is so incredibly petty of an amount as to be of no concern whatsoever to the government.

Did you know that the Department of Defense LOST $2.3 TRILLION~!!! in 2002, and nobody is talking about that.
2.3 TRILLION ---GONE
And we are paying for it, but not talking about it, or even upset.
Now that's worth talking about.

and so is this guy

Greedy government? Isnt this the same government that has and will continue to protect you Johnson? If you have it so bad here, I am sure there plenty better places for you in this world. Why arent you there?

Furthermore, our government does much to encourage small business and the like. I personally know of specific government contracts whose intent is to help develop small businesses while developing new technologies. To say that our government discourages productive business is totally unfounded, inaccurate and very much the antithesis to the truth.

If the government was so concerned about getting a piece of the associated tax action, theyd monitor the industry more and tighten control, not seek bans on that industry (or bands as you like to call them). Rather, I think most would agree that the reptile community has gotten some bad press due to a few irresponsible keepers who are more of the exception than the rule. This, when combined with a generally misinformed public, paves the way for these bans.

Swore not to get into debates anymore? 22 days ago, you said you werent even going to post here anymore and here you are again.

I think the best way to put it is in an analogy that we can all understand.... Kingsnake.com is the government and the advertisers are us...(the website is the U.S. and the advertisers are the population occupying the "space" Kingsnake provides a place for us to hang out and do more or less as we please but just as they support us we need to support them as well. With your TAXES that most of us pay.... so don't hate the government for trying to provide for it's citizens what it "thinks" they want.

I was rushing out the door last night to go to work when I posted this and I was in a rush and I meant to say; " The Government THINKS that of us and other sales on the internet, do not pay taxes on what is bought and sold. " That is also why, I said; " BANDS instead of BANS " and I thank you geniuses for pointing out my illiterate " I am sure I mispelled that " nature. Bunch of young, smart and schooled people around here, but that was my fault and now it is cleared up!! You guys " AS USUALL " were to busy pointing out my illiteracy and trying to make me look stupid, to answer the question that I asked of all of you. I am making this statement about the Government guys, " BEACAUSE IT CAME FROM A FREAKING GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL THAT IS FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY AND HE SHOULD KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON, BECAUSE HIS NAME IS ZACH FREAKING WAMP THAT HAS BEEN OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE FOR NEARLY TEN YEARS ! " I wanted to have a friendly discussion and let you guys know what I had found out and some of the things that I am purposing and wanted to know your opinions and come up with answers. Now, forget it! I am sure I will mispell something and it will be more important for you guys to make fun, than to discuss prevalent " hope I spelled that right " issues.........Johson Herp

I liked your last advice of putting down snakes if they have/had an RI alot better. That was slightly ridiculous.

None of your post made sense especially the reason why the word bands was used rather than bans.

I am sure you are a nice guy but it sounds like you are having a hard time getting you points across. And it might have to do with your points being not thought out very well. or with any valid reasoning behind them.

snakepimp Mar 27, 2005 09:52 AM

Interesting, I didn't remember reading the part about a state representative saying so. That's kind of creepy.
