I.D. help needed

coils Mar 25, 2005 11:31 PM

I was give this orphan kingsnake. The previous owner got it out of the pet trade as a hatchling. It is now over two feet long. He was told that it was an eastern king. I think it is a nigra. when it was small, it had a distinct pattern, which is now very reduced. What do you think it is, and does anyone any mates available. This one is a male.

Thanks

Desert King (L. g. splendida) X Mexican Black King (L. g. nigritus).
MBKs cross with desert kings in the wild. Solid black MBKs are pure and come from stock further south of the splendida range.
Nice looking snake IMHO...I like the sockhead.

thanks for the input, that makes sense to me. I was thinking it was a pure nigra. I definately see splendida though. I think I will try to find a nice splendida to pair it with.

this is definitely a nigrita (not nigra) x splendida intergrade. They can be found in southern Arizona.

Think that it is either a mix of:

Cal King & Desert King
Mex Black & Desert King

Don't think that it's a Nigra at all.
