Sick Snake?

FuzzySnake Mar 26, 2005 07:19 AM

I have a Butler Garter snake baby, about 6-7 months old, anyways, lately he's been acting really strange.

Usually he was quite active, the moment he saw me he would immediantly dart around. Surprised. But ever since the time when he vomited up his food( because there wasn't enough heat and it didn't digest properly) he seems to have gotten sick. But right after he vomited up his food he was so much fine, he accepted another fresh meal of worms and still was his normal self. Now, he's just been weird. He barely moves, and I noticed that on his belly side his scales were coming off in small pieces. I thought he hadn't shedded yet, or he was having difficulty shedding, but when I removed the scales his belly wasn't move, it was tough. He's only about 6-7 inches long, and I fear if I take him to the vet they won't be able to do much. So what should I do?!

I don't understand how this happened! He just went downhill so fast! I thought he was fine..but the same day..he just died. The last moments he began to move around frantically, mouth opening and closing.

I'm going to miss him..I'm so sorry Lucas...I'm so sorry...

Sounds like he stopped breathing if he was opening and closing his mouth probably gasping for air. I dont know much about garters but sounds like maybe he had some sort of disorder or infection or something. Im sure someone else knows what happened. I just lost a dog a couple of weeks ago it feels pretty bad dont it? Once again my deepest sympathies.
