Hi,
Last night was feeding time for my ball python when I realized that all the frozen stuff I had left was somewhat bigger than what he usually eats (90 g rat for a 6 month old ball, roughly 250g). The rat was slightly above 1.5 times the girth of the snake. I put the thawed rat in the enclosure and the snake was really interested in it, going crazy and taking the ambush position. But he didn't strike. Instead, he started stretching his neck and "yamn" saveral times, as to test if he could open wide enough...And between yawns, he would rub his head against things in the enclosure (like when they are in shed and try to remove the skin, but he is not at all in shed). I was wondering if any of you guys observed that behavior in your snakes before? He didn't eat the rat, and my new shipment of right sized rats is due next week.
Thanks,
Alex
