can somone give me alist of the types of rattle snakes found in california

i live in california and i am just starting my interest in rattlesnakes .had my second incounter with one a little over a week ago.i would like to find what type it is.thanx befor hand.

Josh,
There are many ratters found in California. In norther Cali you can find the Western Rattlers like Great Basin and Northern Pacific. In southern California you can find Western Diamondbacks, Sidewinders, speckled rattler, Red Diamond rattler, Mojave Rattler, and western rattler(subspecies Southern Pacific). Hope this list helps, if you still can't identify it email me with where you live and a general description of the snake and I might be able to identify it for you.

well its pretty hard to describe i was at lake mc swein which isnt too far away frome turlock. i didnt get to seee it that much becaus i had it on the end of my snakestick and i was on the side of the hill i didnt get to observe it too much it was kinda light i remember

If you're in Southern California, try the USGS website - it's got color photos and species details for each known type.

i found out it was a southern pacific rattler. can somone tell me the toxcicity of their venom.thanx ahead.
