Beginer setup?

kovub Mar 26, 2005 10:19 AM

Hey guys ive got a 37 gallon tank ( 30"L x 12"W x 24"T ) and i was tossing around a few ideas and a dart frog setup or mantella setup seem pretty cool. Could you guys give me a little idea on what a beginner tank would consist of?

I would recommend practicing on a smaller tank first. You can get a 10 gallon for less than $10 and set it up and then use the "left overs" to set up your 37 gallon. As I make tanks I get better every time, so don't waste all the time and supplies on a tank you probably won't like. Just my advice.

Some setup hints:
1. Research backgrounds. I think they make or break a tank aestetically. Cork is cool, great stuff backgrounds can be cool with practice, and coco liners are cool with a plant covering.
2. Get plants from home depot/Lowes or your local nursery. Rinse them well. You can also get some cool broms from Ebay once it warms up a bit.
3. Use a false bottom or drill a drain.
4. Look at tons of pictures of tanks.
5. Start culturing flies weeks before you get frogs.
