I'll start with the difference. Beadeds are larger than Gilas and live further south. Gilas are common in the Sonoran desert of the southwest, especially in Arizona. They are found in rocky areas and are quite common. A wild one recently took over a pack rat midden under our palo verde. Since they are protected by law, most states require you to have a permit. I am concerned that you want one and don't even know the differences between the two species or their common habitat. They can live up to 30 years. You may want to consider more research about them before purchasing one.
