I just bred my female for the first time and she was born in 2002. It usually takes two to three years for them to reach breeding size. i did not want to breed her too young or too small. Also make sure she is not too thin either.

I can usually tell by loking at the tails. there is usually a very obvious difference in their tails. The female tails look like they got pinched. Go from fat to thin very sharply. male tails taper slowly to a point.

I once caught a gravid female corn snake in Dade Co., FL that was only 18 inches long and laid 6 viable eggs. I have caught corn snakes near my home in LA (where the commonly get over 4 ft)that were gravid at 22 inches. I think it is more a function of age rather than size. I don't believe in power feeding and bring my snakes along slowly. They are usually ready at about 4 years.
