? about fly river turtle

cantilviper Mar 26, 2005 01:37 PM

I have a 120 gallon tank that is 6'long 2'tall and 1 1/2' wide and I am wanting a fly river turtle is the tank large enough to house it properly for the entire life of the turtle and how large do the grow. Do they require a basking spot or can you fill the tank entirely as you would a sea turtle since they have flippers like the sea turtle. Any info you can give like what to feed, temp to keep at, ect... is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, it's doubtful. According to [url=http://centralpets.com/pages/critterpages/reptiles/turtles/TUR2622.shtml[/url]an adult can get up to 50 lbs and 22" long.

Keep in mind; it will take almost 30 years for C. insculpta to reach its full growth potential. A 125 gallon aquaria will last you a good 10-15 years, but after that, I would recommend a small pond..

Something more along the the lines of 300 gallon tank would be a better bet. You would need it to be 24 inches wide and at least 7 ft long for comfort. THEY GET HUGE.
