eye question: was dented, now... blue?

ginevive Mar 26, 2005 02:44 PM

Hey... I rescued this male BP from a really bad situation. He had horribly retained shed on much of his body, as well as a realy badly dented eyecap. Well, he has shed out in one piece for me, and his bad eye looks a LOT better compared to how it was! But it is still a weird blue-ish hue, almost like it looked before the shed. Also, it is smaller than the healthy eye on the snake's right side.
Anyone ever deal with something like this? Any advice? I attached a few pics so you can see what I am talking about. The shed was nice, in one piece with two eyecaps present, but... now what?

Him, and the shed he left me yesterday. In one piece, torn on side, both eyecaps present.

I'm no vet, but it looks to be blind in that eye. I would take it to the vet to get him checked out.

I had one female BP with a similar eye problem , although her eyes were not dented but cracket looking with retained eye caps.
I treated her eyes with 80% vaseline / 20% mineral oil mix daily and after a week or so her eyes looked exactly like yours in the photo, very milky looking and looking like a blind eyes.
Today she shed and her old eye caps came off with the shed. Her eyes are now looking healthy and cristal clear.
I'll post a photo later.

This is a photo of one of my females that had an eye problem for two years before I got her. I treated her eyes with 80 % Vaseline mixed with 20% mineral oil daily until she shed yesterday. Her eyes were looking cracked and opaque before and they are now looking very clear and healthy. (The white area in her eye is from a reflection from a lamp).
