This skin is not your normal dried skin around the eyes. This skin has not come of in a few sheddings. I noticed that my humid hides are not all that humid. I am also keeping them on sand, but I've noticed since doing that my leos are not as healthy as they were on paper. I am swapping out the sand this week.
Anyway how do I remove the nasty eye boogers from their eyes? They are pretty crusty and look really nasty. I do not want to have half blind Leos. Right now there are 2 of my 6 showing these characteristics. Each are from different tanks. 1 male and 1 female. I really think it is my husbandry technique. I know what I'm doing wrong and need to fix it, but I want to get these guys seeing straight again.
Here's how I've been treating them as so if I need to do something different please let me know...THE MALE I placed in water to allow to soak and I peeled as much of the skin away as I could. I saw that he had a few sores around his mouth so I put some antibiotic ointment on there and also put some on the one eye that I could not remove the skin from. I have the male separated out his tank to allow for faster healing of the sores. I have been washing and reapplying the ointment. THE FEMALE I allowed to soak for awhile. Skin is on both of her eyes and I cannot get it off.I have tried to peel some of it. She does not have any sores on her mouth...just some skin on her eyes.
I had a ball python that I got from someone that had a bunch of stuck sheds on its eye and it would not come off when I took warm water and a wash rag and tried to dab it off. I put a humid chamber of moss in its tanks and one day when I held it the piece of skin shed off on my shirt. I'm hoping something similar will happen with the leos.
Please let me know anything I can do. I feel so rotten because this is all purely my fault and I know better. So now help me learn to treat this. I can fix things to prevent this from happening again. Just give me a few pointers on treatment. Thanks much...the worried leo owner.
