>>I awoke this morning to find my runt Rioja ("Rio" half inside, half outside his rock hide -- not a good sign. Upon closer examination, I came to the same realization that Rio had gone to a better place. He wasn't breathing, but he hadn't gone through rigomortous yet.
>>
>>Rio had shed left on his tail, 2 of 4 legs, and had a 1" piece of shed skin stuck in his mouth in a horizontal manner. There was no sign of trauma externally or internal bleeding & his underside looked relatively normal. Rio did have a tiny amount of dry blood on his lips around the piece of shed in his mouth.

>>Can young leos choke/suffocate on shed? He was happy enough after feeding when I went to sleep last night so its a relative mystery me why he died. Poor lil' Ree...may he be in a better place right now...
I'm not sure if young leo's can choke on shed. I just got a baby about 1 1/2 weeks ago and he's shed perfectly 1 time, of course he practically lives in his humid hide during the day and only comes out at night (he's such a good boy).
I know that it is possible for adults to choke on shed though. The past 2 sheds Kalypso has had, she's ended up puking up her shed because she's started choking on it. I actually had to help pull the shed out of her mouth because it wasn't coming out quick enough and I think she was struggling for oxygen.
Sorry your little one died. He's probably up in reptile heaven with my 3 saharan uromastyx that died this past year.
