Still not eating

msubigdawg Mar 26, 2005 05:25 PM

I have two dumerils that are about the same age that I got around Christmas. They are both maybe a foot or so and have never eating since I have had them. One has never even used his tounge. And with that one the folks we got them from were horrible and would never return a call or email. But they havnt eating yet and I dont know what to do. I am wondering if anyone can give me any help. Im hoping as it is warming up now with spring that they will want to eat within the next month or so. They are both pretty nippy little devils. So any help would be appreciated.

What is your current set up? Give as many details as possible, and maybe we can see something missing or unsuitable that will help you out. Also, scroll down this forum, and you'll find quite a few "getting dumerils to feed" questions, and also many of the posts with a different topic header have this question included as well. It seems that everyone that is going to give a suggestion on how to get them to feed has done so at one point or another here already. Since this forum is rather slow, it will take very little time to review all the posts. In a nutshell, they need to feel secure to feed consistently. The one that doesn't use his tongue is probably going to require assist feeding, maybe indefinitely. You should also let people know who sold you the dumerils with the imperfection so they don't get one over on other people in the future. There are plenty of us out here breeding QUALITY dumerils offered in the same price ranges, so if there's someone selling imperfect dumerils as well as not returning calls/e-mails, people should be made aware every chance you get. Good luck, take care!

You might try baby quail if you can find them.Dumerils really like them. I have a 3 year old male and that's all he ate for his first year with no problems.I know some people don't like this advice but it worked for me.

A suggestion for finding them is to look in your farm section classifieds. That was the only way I found them in this area...found in the same section as tractors, cattle, etc. If it is what works, it's what works!!! I had to pick some up for an Olive Python at one point.
