Sulcata in So. Cal.

herpersteve Mar 26, 2005 05:51 PM

Anyone keep sulcata's outside year round in southern california? Or does it get too cold during winter? I was thinking with a heated room in one corner of the yard it would be possible. Any input would be appreciated. THanks.

I'm not from southern California, quite the opposite in fact, but I would think that if you compared winter temps to the prefered optimal range then you will answer your own question

I live in San Diego, and keep my seven year old sulcata outside year around. She has been outside year around since age 2. She has a large wooden doghouse with a 60 watt light on at night. However, some nights she doesn't even go in it and sleeps under the rose bushes. So far she is healthly and growing nicely. Also her food is the grass and weeds that grow in the yard and a few hibsicus and rose flowers.
