Red Feeding respone

civa Mar 26, 2005 06:31 PM

Anyone have a red with an unusually high feeding response? I have one about 2 feet that will try and bite anything that goes near its cage. Once I get him out he is realatively calm but I don't trust him like I would trust my dumerils monitor or even my Argus. Any ideas on how to get him to mellow out just a little?

Thanks

Doug

My Rufus gets excited at feeding time. What I did was work with him. When he gets over excited I hold out my hand, like telling a dog to whoa, or a policeman stopping traffic. The first few times it was an act of bravery on my part. He would taste my palm with his tongue and everything was OK. I use this anytime I want him to slow down and it has always worked with Rufus. I have never been bit by him. By the way, I've used this, and it works sometimes, with snakes.

Let me know how it works.
