The rains are hitting us right now in Orlando, and I found these cool little spadefoot toads in my backyard. I don't usually post on toads, but I thought you guys might enjoy seeing these.
*whines* That is SOOOOOOO unfair! I have been spending the past year DESPERATELY trying to find some spades.

Yeah, I really love spadefoots. They are fairly common but it seems like just pure luck to come across them. I do a lot of nighttime herp hunting and I have only found them three times in my life. I went up to Ocala, Florida the next day and found a slimy salamander and a southeastern five-lined skink. It looks like it's going to be a great year for herping.
I love those they are great looking. I found some last year after the storms. I looked into them as captive toads but I read they actually are better off wild as they live to dig under ground and rarely come to the surface.
I used to live up North now Miami this is a reptile,amphibian paradise. I have those 5 lined skinks in my yard by the laundy room but so so fast never caught one.

I found two american toads and about 3 spring peepers in my neighbors pond.
