Summer UV requirements?

celeste Mar 27, 2005 08:32 AM

This will be the first summer we've had dragons to care for. If they get regular sunlight (either from being taken outside or from an open window), do they still require the UV tube? If you don't need the UV during the summer, how much sunlight should they get per day? Do you generally have to lower the wattage on the heat lamps as well? We were using 200watt bulbs for the winter, we've already gone down to 150 watts. I guess it's probably going to be a trial and error thing, huh?

Thanks for the help!

Melissa

If I remember correctly, about 6 hours of natural sunlight a week is what a bearded dragon needs to stay healthy. That's pretty much an hour a day. You probably could leave the UVB bulb off during the summer, but keep in mind, if it's cloudy or cool, you do want that light on for your dragon.
