Collared disease: end of the mistery

yar Mar 27, 2005 09:28 AM

Hi all and thank you for your interest in my case.
I sentat last to a specialliced vet in Barcelona one of my dead animals, which were frozen since October and one terminal young from a friend with the same symptoms.
The results of the necropsya are bacterial/virical estomatitis. The vet have found herpesvirus (Johne told me) complicated with Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The recomendations of the vet are very drastic (desinfection of the reptile room, terraria and instruments and elimination of the animals who have had contact with the infected ones). Anyone knows any of this disease?
Apart, I would like to know any good book about Crotaphytus or any page in the web (yours is great, Pheve) about the design of the terrarium for collareds.
Thanks again.

helps us all. I know that the herpes virus was talked about at more detail on the chuckwalla forum last year, as someone there lost some animals due to it.

I think thats where Johne heard of it also, as we tend to hang out there too having chucks.

You may want to go there and give, tgreb, a holler, his name is Tom, very nice guy, I think if anyone has info on it he may or know of some.

And I would like all the symptoms again, or whatever you find out, I think I will put it on my site under (frequently asked questions) as a medical condidtion.

** That way others will be able to watch for it and maybe recognize it, if ever they see it in their animals.

Thanks Yar, please keep in touch, this was an interesting find.

Take care,

Yeah, details for the symptoms would be most excellent. I wonder if the herpes virus (or some other virus, for that matter) was responsible for the tragedy in my collection several years ago. Since my lizards didn't respond to any of the available of treatments, it makes me wonder. Maybe this is more prevalent than I thought.

Thanks for posting your update.
